How To Clean Gym Floor Mats
Gym owners would know the value of gym floor mats, which have many functions, like proper protection and utmost comfort for your clients and employees. They also help prevent the exercise equipment from damaging the floor beneath. And they can also add attractiveness for the inside of your gym. Read on this article to learn how to clean gym floor mats.
Keeping Your Gym Floor Mats Clean
Dirty mats can be a potential health and safety hazard for your gym, as they can cause bacteria to build up on your mats. They can also become sticky or slippery and can produce bad odors all over the place. So you have to be very particular in keeping your place clean for you to protect your investment. Follow these steps on how to clean gym floor mats.
Step 1 – Remove dirt, dust, and debris.
Just like what you would do on any flooring surface, remove all dirt, dust, and debris on and under your gym floor mats. Use a vacuum to remove all dirt.
Step 2 – Mop with rubber floor cleaner and warm water.
Mix rubber floor cleaner on a bucket filled with warm water. You can also use an all-purpose cleaner or even liquid dish soap. Dip the mop into the bucket, squeeze to remove excess water before you start to mop the floor. This way, you can avoid wetting the floor underneath that can cause your mats to be slippery or create bad odor under your mats.
Step 3 – Remove stains or spills.
Check and see if there are any stains on your mats. Remove the stain using a clean cloth or soft-bristled brush and liquid dish soap and rub it directly on the stain. Avoid using heavy brushes or steel wool sponges that can cause scars on the surface of your mats - and using acetone-based or any acidic solution or chemical cleanser can damage your rubber mats as well.
Step 4 – Deep Cleaning
It is important to establish routine maintenance and deep clean your gym floor mats to guarantee heavy cleaning that a regular vacuum and mop cannot provide. A formula with neutral pH cleanser is the best way to deep clean your floor mats. Use it with a mop, sponge, or clean towel. When mopping the floor, start at the back of the gym and move backward to avoid stepping on any areas you already cleaned.
Step 5 – Rinse the mop and bucket.
Rinse the mop with running water, and clean the bucket to remove the soap residue.
Step 6 – Mop the floor with clean water.
Once you already cleaned your mop, start to mop the gym floor mats once again and remove any soap residue.
Step 7 – Air dry
Allow the gym floor mats to air dry naturally before stepping on them.
Step 8 – Clean all cleaning materials.
Be sure to clean all your cleaning materials properly as well. Clean the mop and towels you used by soaking them in chemical cleansers or soap and warm water to get rid of all bacteria that may stick on them.
Apply rubber floor conditioner regularly to help restore the original glow of your gym floor mats like when it was first installed. Fabric conditioner mixed in a gallon of water and mopped on the floor can be a cheap alternative.
Cleaning your gym floor mats can be tiring to do. But keeping them clean, not just your gym, is important. Remember, a clean gym will attract more clients.
